Independent CAT Adjuster - There are many independent adjusting firms that are looking for well trained adjusters to be put on their rolls. When a disaster strikes they call up the adjusters on those rolls to answer the call. They often are contracted with many insurance companies to do their adjusting work. During the time of the disaster an adjuster can anticipate making as much as $1,000 per day.

Company Adjuster - This adjuster works for an insurance company or independent local adjusting firm. While they may be called upon for CAT's, very often the work involves "dailies" - everyday losses a property owner may have from a fire to damage from broken plumbing to theft. This position is often salaried at somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000 per year.

Public Adjuster - This adjuster works directly with the property owner or with law firms representing them to see to their best interests when negotiating a settlement with insurance companies. Pay is often on a commission or per case basis.
